Effective
May 1, 2000, The New Jersey seat belt law, which requires front seat
occupants of passenger vehicles to use seat belt systems, has been
upgraded from a secondary to a primary violation. This means police
officers can stop vehicles and issue motor vehicles summonses when they
witness a violation of front seat occupants not correctly wearing seat
belts. Furthermore,
the definition of a "passenger vehicle", as it applies to this
law, has also been expanded to include vans, pick-up trucks and utility
vehicles. REMEMBER
- "BUCKLE UP FOR SAFETY"
Notice
to all Township Residents The
Township of Bordentown requires all burglar alarms be properly
registered with the Police Department. This agency responds to well
over one thousand false alarms per year. This presents a substantial
drain on patrol time, manpower, finances, and places a substantial risk
to police officers and public safety when responding to alarms. For
these reasons, alarm ordinance #1989-2 was adopted. Procedures
for Obtaining Alarm Permits Alarm
permit applications and copy of the ordinance can be obtained at the
Police Department Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 am until
4 pm. There is a one time fee of $10.00 per residential property of
business property. It is the property owners responsibility to keep up
to date records with the police department regarding the alarm company
and to ensure compliance to this ordinance.
